Whether you are considering Canvas or any other type of learning management system for your school, you will want to be prepared for what to look for in an LMS.
As part of the evaluation process you will undertake, here is an LMS Evaluation Survival Kit ā to help you successfully choose the right LMS for you:
- LMS Evaluation 101: The ability to make teaching and learning easier is the ultimate test of an LMS. The easier an LMS is to use, the more likely it will be that teachers and students will adopt and use it. When evaluating the various LMSs, carefully consider is the LMS Reliable, Adaptable, and Will it Get Used?
Discussion: What are you looking for in an LMS?
- Receive an LMS Demo: If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a demo of an LMS must be worth at least 10,000 words. Spending an hour or two to properly investigate each of the one or two LMSs you are considering can go a long way in helping you to select the LMS that will ultimately meet your needs.
Understanding the why of teaching and the why of learning help us to see the great importance of education.
The what of education teaches us what to do. The why inspires our minds. The how is the vehicle that gets us there.
The what informs. The why transforms. The how is ???
- LMS Staging Environment: Remember, things are only as good as they work. A staging environment is a great way to "test drive" an LMS before you consider its implementation.
A staging environment also allows users to stage a student/teacher focus group to gain critical feedback as to what LMS students and teachers prefer to use and why.
